New Year’s Eve Cocktail Trio

Maybe my new year’s resolution should be to get more sleep?

I spent the past couple of hours editing photos and compiling my recipes and post, only to find out at 2:30 am that it did not save! With New Year’s Eve basically here, I did not want to miss the opportunity to post this trio of delicious cocktails for you. They are easy, delicious and a little different. I will make sure to update tomorrow so you have amounts and details, but for now…I need to rest. Until tomorrow…I’m signing off!

Update:

BLOOD ORANGE MARTINI

(Makes One)

This is my absolute favorite. Blood oranges are special to me, because I first encountered them when working at Osteria Del Circo and a cook had sliced into one that was so red and vibrant –  I was in love. They are around during the winter, but only for a short time. It sort of has a citrus – raspberry like flavor and works really well with vodka!

1/4 cup citrus vodka

1/4 cup triple sec
2 blood oranges, juiced (save a slice for garnish)
1/4 lime, juiced
Crushed ice
Martini glass, frosted

Place martini glass in freezer to frost for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, combine all ingredients in shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about a minute. Pour into frosted martini glass and garnish with blood orange slice on the side, or floating in the drink. Enjoy!

SPIKED CHOCOLATE ALMOND MILKSHAKE
(Makes One)

Chocolate and almond go together like bread & butter. Throw a coffee flavored liqueur in the mix and you’re in heaven! This mix is creamy and delicious and the crunchy almonds on top make a nice addition to round out this cocktail.

1/4 cup Kahlua
1/8 cup Amaretto
1/4 light cream
1/4 milk
1/2 Tbsp sugar
4 Ferrero Rocher chocolate candies, chopped small (I used “rondnoir”, but any of their chocolates will be delicious)
Sprinkle of cinnamon
1 cinnamon stick for garnish
1 Tbsp toasted almonds for garnish
Crushed ice
Old fashioned glass

Shake all ingredients in shaker with ice vigorously for about 1 minute. Garnish with toasted almonds and a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

RASPBERRY LEMONADE CHAMPAGNE
(Makes One)
This one comes as inspiration from my husband – who loves all things sweet. Especially this combination of raspberry and lemonade. I personally don’t love champagne, so this addition of a sour sweetness is a nice balance to it. Strawberries, blueberries or other fruits work well too.

1/4 Simple syrup (equal parts of sugar and water brought to a boil and cooled)
1 lemon, juiced
5-8 raspberries, and more for garnish
Brut Champagne
Lemon twist for garnish
Few crushed ice cubes
Champagne Flute glass
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the raspberries a bit with a wooden spoon. Add simple syrup, lemon juice and a few ice cubes and shake well. Add to a flute glass, and top with champagne. Garnish with more raspberries and a lemon twist. Enjoy!
